Pain and soreness under right ribcage.

Resolved Question:

Im a 27 white male, slightly overweight but overall in good general health. I began having soreness under my right rib age 7 days ago. The pain increased severely over days 3-4, and somewhat decreased the days after but at times I have very sharp pains. Lying still on my back is comfortable, movement causes pain. I have at times had pain, though more of a soreness in my right kidney. Initially I thought I was having a kidney stone. But most symptoms point to my gallbladder. But my urinating and bowels are normal. No fever. Healthy appetite. Nothing changes after consuming food. Just severe pain under my ribs. After I was still experiencing pain I went to the ER yesterday and they did blood tests and a ultrasound. I was diagnosed and i quote "upper abdominal pain unexplainable" like there's nothing wrong with me! They also referred me to a surgeon and gave me a perscription for Percocet. Does anyone have any thoughts that can help me??

Hello, Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring

From your symptoms you appear to be suffering from Gall stones.

Gall stones are formed when supersaturation of bile occurs. Gall stones tend to give colicky pain like you have specified. Just an X-ray will be enough to identify if you are suffering from gall stones. Few Blood tests may be given to check for signs of infection or obstruction and/or to rule out other conditions. Ultrasound: This procedure produces images of various parts of the body and can be used to identify gallstones

Actigall or Chenix are drugs that work by dissolving cholesterol stones. Mild diarrhea is a side effect of both medications. These drugs have a lot of side effects like, firstly these drugs take a long time to completely dissolve the gall stones, secondly once you stop the drugs, the gall stones will reoccur. I suggest you visit a physician first.

Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask follow-up questions
