Burning sensation in penis after vaginal sex, no discharge.

Resolved Question:

I had an unprotected vaginal sexual encounter with a random girl and experienced burning in my penis 3 days after the encounter. I did not have any discharge or painful urination, just the burning. One day after the encounter I slept with my girlfriend. I was tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea (urine test) 4 and a 1/2 days after my unprotected sexual encounter with the stranger. I was tested at two places so I would have two test results to rely on. I tested negative for both gonorrhea and chlamydia on both tests. I was treated with azithromax at my request because I was worried about std transmission to my girlfriend.
I only slept with my girlfriend that one time, one day after my unprotected vaginal encounter with the stranger. My girlfriend is experiencing bleeding before her period. She was given the generic brand of her birth control earlier this month and she thinks the bleeding before her period is due to the change in birth control. Other than the spotting and cramping she does not have any symptoms related to gonorrhea or chlamydia.
Should I be worried that I have given her an std even though I had two negative urinalysis tests performed and she recently switched birth control brands? I am worrying that the bleeding is due to an std and wonder if it is more likely that the bleeding is due to her change in birth control all things considered. I will tell her to go to her gyno to get checked but I just want to know how likely the bleeding is due to her birth control vs possible std exposure.

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
There is no such STD which will induce bleeding in a female. If you did pass on the infection, she would experience urinary symptoms such as burning urination, dysuria, e.t.c
This is most likely to be due to a brand change.
So, please do not worry, and get a gynaecology opinion for her.
Hope this was helpful,
Regards.

Thanks for your response doctor. I would like to clarify your response and ask a follow up question. You say that there are no STD's that induce bleeding in a female? Many reputable websites claim that among other STDs chlamydia and gonorrhea have possible symptoms that include bleeding inbetween periods and vaginal discharge. Why do you claim that no STD would induce bleeding in a female?
Also, what are the chances that I was tested too soon? I was tested at 4/12 days for chlamydia and gonorrhea (Urinalysis). I know I should follow up for other STDs at a later time but right now chlamydia and gonorrhea are my main concern.
Not to be disrespectful but just to feel good about the money I paid for the service, I see your specialty is in dermatology and cosmetic dermatology. Are you also an STD specialist? Thanks for your help.

Hello,
I will be happy to clarify all your doubts.
Yes, I am a STD specialist too.
Why I said there is no STD that can induce bleeding? - Yes, you're right, some infections like Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea may induce bleeding in between periods, however, the incidence is extremely low for that. Also, that is not the first symptom the women will have. If she did get the infection, she will first experience symptoms like painful urination, white discharge in the urine, and a burning sensation while passing urine. Since she does not have any such symptoms, and also the fact, that she changed her birth control, there is no reason to worry. I can assure you that.
Yes, often the symptoms make take up to 7 days, and the bacteria won't be detected before that. However, you did take a course of Azithromycin and so, even if you did have the infection, it would clear up.
Since you do not have any urethritis, which is first symptom a patient presents with if they acquire Chlamydia or Gonorrhoea, it is highly unlikely you got this infection from the exposure.
Hope I was clear. If you have further questions, I will be happy to follow-up.
Regards.

Thank you very much doctor, that eases my mind. Thanks for your help.

Hello,
I am glad I was able to help.
Thank You!

Patient replied :

Sorry for the late follow up but I am being a little paranoid. If a person had abdominal pain from gonorrhea or chlamydia would the pain be constant or would it come and go?

Hello,
If that ever happens the pain will mostly be intermittent.
Burning urination and infrequent abdominal pain with a white discharge will indicate Chlamydia or Gonorrhoea.

Regards.
