Delaying period and birth control

Resolved Question:

My period is due any day now, however I do not want it to happen on Monday ( My husband is due after six months just for a two day visit on 17th and 18th )
should i just take it today( wednesday) or wait till the first day of my period which could be anyday as its already two days late. I do get delayed periods by a week. just want to prevent pregnancy as I already have two kids. can I just start it today and combine it with i-pill to postpone them, since we have been living separately for two years past, I stopped taking pills as I used to keep forgetting it. I used Overal and never had any problems, medically I have no problems except since past three months my periods are getting delayed by a week or more. I always have had this trouble. I am not pregnant I am sure. I am 42 year old
Is it harmful to take it when my period hasn't started?

Hello,
Thanks for writing to DoctorSpring.com with your health concern.

Can you specify what is ' it ' ?
I assume you are referring to Deviry ( progesterone preparation ).
As I understand, you wish to postpone your periods atleast till the 17th and 18th of February, and also want contraception ( is that right ? - do correct me if wrong ).
For postponement of your periods, please start taking Deviry immediately ( twice a day or thrice a day if you are overweight ) and continue it atleast till the 18th, once you stop , you would have a withdrawal bleed within a week.
For contraception, yes, if condoms are ruled out, then use the I pill.
The I pill would mess up the expected period date, and you wont know when you bleed next, but this is the best combination for the purpose intended.
If you are comfortable with condoms, then just Deviry will suffice.

Edit -
Rather than being harmful, if you wait for your periods to start before taking Deviry, you would be too late.
It is supposed to be started BEFORE you menstruate, if you wish to postpone menstruation.

All the best.
Please feel free to discuss further.

Patient replied :

Can I use Primolute N for the same purpose and wont using overal do the same thing? I want to postpone mensuration as well as avoid contraception. since I am seeing my husband after so many days it will be so disappointing for both of us. and I do want to start using birth control pills again. so how to avoid contraception as I do not want to get in to the hassle of abortion later. plus its against my beliefs

You can use Primolut - N.
It will work the same way as Deviry.
It is too late to start Ovral for contraceptive purposes, just one week or less of Ovral will not initiate contraceptive benefits.
Also, starting Ovral too late will not make it useful for postponing your periods also.
You should start Primolut - N right away, as you might start your period anytime, and once it starts, no drug will work to stop it in time.
Once you have your period after the use of Primolut - N and I pill, you can then start taking Ovral from the 1st or 2nd day of your period.
Take care

Patient replied :

Thank you I am starting Primolut N once a day is it fine though I am over weight or should I change my dosage. My hieght is 5 .4 and weigh is 86 kG.

No it is not at all a proper dose.
You should take it at least twice a day.
