Voice loss

Resolved Question:

I have lost my voice for about a month now and it feels like something is stuck in my throat. Hard to swallow. Doesn't hurt though. What could that be?

Hello,

Thank you for using Ask a Doctor Service from Doctor Spring.

Your one complain is clear that you have feeling of lump in thorat( foreign body sensation) with difficulty in swallowing without pain( dysphagia)
But I want more clear information about your voice.
Do you have change in voice, hoarseness of voice or total loss of voice.
Do you have progression in voice loss means is it worsening over a month ,or is it intermittent means do you have normal or better voice inbetween
Voice change with dysphagia can be due to simple acidity (acid reflux)
But you need a throat examination by a locol ENT doctor, Who can do laryngeal endoscopy also to get definitive diagnosis( direct examination of voice box and throat by camera)

Summary :
Please give more information about you voice loss
Consider visiting your local ENT doctor

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have any further queries.

Thank you.

Patient replied :

It is constant and has gotten progressively worse. I've already had two rounds of antibiotics. It doesn't hurt. There is no congestion. You can hear sounds from my lungs when I breathe deeply. Is it serious.

Hello,

If your voice is progressively worsening without normal voice inbetween, then you need laryngeal endoscopy to examine your voice box (to get definite diagnosis).

Most probably in young age it will be chronic laryngitis or may be vocal polyp, which are not serious conditions, still you need examination by local ENT doctor.

Sound from lungs when you breath deeply is wheezing, it is also not serious, can be treated with medicine after examination by local physician or ENT doctor.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have any further queries.

Thank you
Regards
