White lumpy patch on penis and rough to touch.

Resolved Question:

There is a white lumpy patch on the back of my penis head underneath the foreskin. It spreads into a white ring that circles the entirety of my penis. It is lumpy and rough to the touch. What is it, and is it dangerous?

Hello,
Thank you for your query at Doctorspring.com
I apologise for the delay in reply.
For how long has the white line been present? Will you give me an exact duration?
Also is it itchy? Are you sexually active? Is it associated with any pain?
Kindly reply and I will get bck to you,
Regards.

Patient replied :

It has been likes this for about 4-5 months, however it hasn't always been this noticable. I am not currently sexually active, and have not been for the duration of this ailment. There is not itch associated with it, there has recently been slight pain upon retraction of the foreskin.

Hello

Thanks for posting your query. I can understand your concern.

This seems to be yeast infection. It is caused by the yeast called candida albicans. It happens in conditions of heat and humidity.

I would recommend application of clotrimazole cream twice a day for three weeks. Also taking oral anti fungal called fluconazole will be helpful.

In case it doesn't start improving in a week's time you need to consult a doctor who can thoroughly examine you. As on the picture its not possible to examine and then opine.

Please let me if you have any queries. Take care

Patient replied :

Are these over the counter medications, or will I have to get a prescription? I was also wondering, for the length of time that i've had it, nearly half a year, am I in danger of other ill effects from the infection?

Hello,
Yes you will need a prescription from your local physician for this.
Also candida infection is very common, and once treated, and if local hygiene is maintained well, there are no ill effects from the infection.
Regards.
