Am I allergic to ALOE VERA?

Resolved question:

On this Sunday morning I woke up with my face and eyes swollen. On the previous day I used an Aloe Vera treatment and that was not the first time though. When the first time I tried it was a week before and the treatment worked well, made my skin really smooth. That`s why I ordered it for myself. I have washed my face with the Aloe Vera soap and used the nourishing serum and then the Aloe Vera balancing cream but after I applied it, my skin started to feel ichy, and then had a burning sensation for the whole afternoon and evening, especially around my eyes. On Sunday morning I had swelling all on my face. I have been using the plant Aloe Vera for years now. Is it possible I became allergic to it? Or am I allergic to one of its ingredients?

Thank you for your question.

You certainly seem to have developed an allergy, but it might be to anyone of the ingredients in the products you used, rather than aloe vera itself. These products contain many ingredients; and allergies are common to things such as preservatives and perfumes. Typically you won't be get affected at the first time you used a product, but that’s when the sensitisation occurs. When you come into contact with the substance you have become sensitised to on a second occasion, that’s when the allergic response occurs. You can check for yourself that youhave ever reacted to something else that might contain the same ingredient such as another cream, elastoplast, a perfume etc.

You should avoid this product in the future as it will always cause an allergic response. For now, just let your face settle down naturally. You could take an antihistamine to help if you wish.
