Bright red blood on stool after eating a bowl of cashews

Resolved question:
I have been having bright red blood(not really inside of)but on my stool for the last 2 weeks.Sometimes no sign of blood at all on stool.I have lower left abdominal sensations off and on, not really pain though. No blood onT.P when I wipe,no itching or signs of hemeroids.I did strain while using the resttroom about 2 or 3 weeks ago and felt like a pulling/slight burning sensation in lower left front of abdomen area. I also ate about 1 lb of cashews at one sitting a couple of weeks agoo and thought I may have torn something trying to digest the nuts. I am a contractor in Afghanistan and it is quiet a process for me to get seen by a doctor, I have to go to Dubai. Can this heal on its own? I am thinknig of waiting until mid Oct to possibly get seen by a doctor in Dubai. Please advise

Hi,
Thanks for your consult at DoctorSpring.com.

Please let me know among the following any other associated symptoms -
Do you have diarrhea/ increased frequency of defecation/ constipation/ fever/ spasmodic abdominal pain?
Do you have tender feeling in lower left quadrant of abdomen?
Do you have pain while passing stools or wiping?

With the available described symptoms, there could be possibility of anal fissure or sigmoid colon ulcerations due to fecolith.

Presence of strain while passing stool favors anal fissure while pain in left lower abdomen favors ulcerations.

You should consult with general surgeon/ gastroenterologist and should go for thorough check up.

You should also go for complete blood count, thyroid profile, serum calcium, blood sugar and liver function test.

You should also go for per rectal examination to rule out anal fissure as you have already defined least possibility of hemorrhoids.

If per rectal examination is found to be normal then you should go for full length colonoscopy to evaluate the cause of bleeding.

Bleeding from any orifice in body should be taken seriously and should be fully evaluated to rule out major concern.

As such there appears to be least correlation between intake of cashew and present symptoms. Intestine is around 6 meters long and edible taken orally gets digested while reaching to large colon. Even a needle in large colon doesn't make any damage.

Treatment depends on exact diagnosis. Meanwhile, you should take plenty of water and high fiber diet. You should also take hemostatic medicine on written prescription from a local doctor.

Take care,Please feel free to discuss further.
Get well soon,

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

You should consult with general surgeon and get proper examination of per rectal region.

If local cause is not present then only you should go for colonoscopy and complete antibiotic course.

Thanks,
