Drugs for ANXIETY other than ZOLOFT, LEXAPRO.

Resolved question:
I suffer from anxieity. I have been in the past on Paxil (10 years) symptom free - but gained weight, zoloft - 2 years old patient(then it seem not to work) and then Lexapro (10 mgs)for 1 1/3 years. it also lost its efficacy. The Doctor, who is excellent but is in his 80's,  then put me back on Zoloft as he said it was a two year break and it once worked for me. I was cross tapered from Lexapro 20 mgs to 100 mgs of Zoloft. I began the cross tapering 4 weeks ago.  Felt horrible. The Doctor upped the Zoloft to 150 two weeks ago.  Now I have been on 150 mgs of Zoloft for 2 weeks and I still feel horrible. I actually cried after work today when I got in my car. My doctor is wonderful, but older. I am frightened. I have to work. Are there other things. Please give me any suggestions.  Since I was already on an SSRI and cross tapered almost a month ago, should the zoloft 150 mgs have kicked in by now (2 weeks on 150)  Thank you.

Hello
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com

I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
You have mentioned that yoi have been on pacil, xoloft and lexapro and all of them are ssri. Now that the ssris are not suiting you it would be wise to use a higher degree drug the snri. Mirtazapine or venlafaxine or desvenlafaxine are the drugs which can be very useful. I especially recommend venlafaxine which is very effective. It is started in the doee of 37.5mg and then gradually increased to 150-225mg. And cognitive behaviour therapy has a huge impact on anxiety disorder and do follow all the sessions religiously.

Hope this helps.

If you have any further query, do let me know.

Hi, You are not going to believe this, but I felt much better yesterday on the Zoloft 150. Felt like it was gone totally. Today I was not feeling that great. I am thinking it maybe working again. Is this possible?

Hello
Now that the zoloft was continued only for 2 week, I guess you should give it more time. If it has to effect it will do so in the next 2 weeks. But if there is no good effect then it would be wise to discontinue the medicines.
Yes it may work and you need to give it some time.
Hope this helps
