Felt the need to take deep breaths often. Cause?

Resolved question:
I'm 41, female. I have no health issues and exercise often. For the last few weeks I've felt the need to try to take deep breaths but they aren't satisfying. This is happening about every 5 minutes or so. What could be causing this? Thanks.

Hello,
Thanks for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
Dyspnea (shortness of breath or laboured breath) can be due to several medical reasons such as diseases of lung or heart or airway e.g. lung infections, cardiac ischemia, asthma, chronic obstructive lung diseases, pulmonary embolism, pulmonary hypertension anxiety etc.
Can you please elaborate your symptoms? When do you feel the need to take deep breaths? Is there any associated chest pain? Is it relieved by rest? Is there any history of smoking? Is it associated with any cough or sputum production? Is it associated with a particular position lying down, standing?
Please feel free to discuss
Regards

Thank you for the response. I have smoked on occasion but very rarely, maybe a couple cigarettes in a two week time span and I dont drink very often at all, just socially on occasion. I have no chest pain. I have a dry cough and clear my throat a lot. When I drink alcohol I get immediately red faced and very hot skin. So i don't drink hardly at all. It feels like my lungs are sore in the muscles from trying to get a deep satisfying breath. It happens all day long. I don't notice it in the night at all. It happens while I'm driving, sitting at work, walking, and while I'm on the treadmill excercising.
Thank you.

Hello,
Thank you for getting back.
Your pain might be probably due to asthma or chronic obstructive disease or other lung problem.
Please get your chest X-ray and ECG and routine blood workup done. You can consult chest physician who might examine you for breathing functions using tests such as spirometry.
Please get back to me if you have questions.
Regards
