Fetal hydronephrosis

Resolved question:
Respected Doctor.
My wife is pregnant now about 5 months old and recently she have gone through tiffa test and there in the result they have mentioned that, the right kidney is abnormal in size and it is bigger then we have gone through ultrascan there also, doctor said it is due to HYDRONEPHROSIS and all other parts are normal.

Also, our doctor she is a gynocologist suggested us to terminate the pregnancy but , my wife is really worried about and then we have consulted pediatric surgeon and he said it is not a problem and it is common and it may be due to the harmones and we can continue .

Now , we are very much confused about this whether we continue or terminate the pregnancy.

Hence, i m requesting your valuable advice which is going to make our wife happy.

Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for your consult at DoctorSpring.com,

Mild to moderate hydronrphrosis on one side is a frequent phenomenon during pregnancy. It rarely requires surgery or termination of pregnancy.

You need to see the size and function of the kidney before taking a decision. As we can't do the functional assessment if that kidney during pregnancy, we can't say any thing.

As far as the termination of pregnancy is concerned u don't need to worry as it is not really required. Why did you get chest x ray done. You could have presented the original ultrasound report rather. Get urine culture test done and see whether there is any urine infection now.

Hope this helps, please feel free to discuss further.
