Got herpes infection during pregnancy. What to do now?

Resolved question:

Hi doctor,

I am a 24 years old female. I have been with my boyfriends for quite a while before marriage. I got married last September. Recently I got pregnant and it is just a couple of months now. My problem is that I am having sores which later got confirmed to be that of herpes. What are the treatment options available for me?

Thanks for your question and concern. Anyway this question cannot be answered straight away. There are different types of therapies out there to treat herpes. Daily suppressive therapy and occasional therapies are there to treat outbreaks. It is your doctor who can give better information about you as he may know you better. Antiviral drugs have reported side effects in some cases of pregnancy and not in some other. I would like to recommend you back to your doctor so that he can suggest the medication needed. You should discuss the entire thing with your doctor along with the test results so that doctor can come to a conclusion easily. It is possible for you to transmit the virus to your baby through nicks or cuts in which bodily fluids are prone to get in contact with each other. So it is important to take enough care while delivery and after delivery. Never let anyone with cold sores, kiss the newborn baby. Hope my answer helped. Take care.
