Head pain, vomiting, unable to drink. Cause?

Resolved question:
My child (5yr old) was vomiting earlier today but has no fever , we expect food poisoning. He didn't have much to drink all day and we didn't start fluids until he couldn't keep anything down. He has tears wheN he cries but when we woke him up to try to get him to drink something we couldn't calm him down enough for him to drink. He said his head hurt but he hasn't hit it on anything. Should we take him to urgent care, he has had a long day and is wiped but his inability to drink water has us concerned

Dear Parent,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I can understand your concerns and cannot imagine what you must be going through. Firstly, whatever is the underlying cause of vomiting (food poisoning, gastritis, etc.), the most important thing is to ensure HYDRATION. Inability to drink water in a child who is losing fluids (via vomiting) is definitely an indication to seek urgent medical attention. I would strongly urge you to take him to the nearest pediatric ER.
The vomiting and head ache is likely to improve with supportive care. We can always evaluate for the underlying cause with tests and investigations later after the child's acute condition stabilizes.
Wishing him a speedy recovery.
