How to treat Gardnerella?

Resolved question:

I am under treatment for Gardnerella for over a year now. Hi doctor, I am 30 and am currently going under the treatment for Gardnerella. It has almost been a year since I started the treatment and the doctors have changed my prescription five times over. But none of it isworking; it comes back again and again. I can’t bear it any more, I even went to OBGYN. But I doubt if my husband has this and that why this is passing on me again and again and may be not, do I have sexually transmitted infections, what do I do?

I would like you to accept my thanks for sharing your problem with me. First of all you need to understand that Gardnerella is a kind of vaginitis and it is a result of overgrowth of organisms (one or more) that are present in a vagina. This creates an imbalance of the natural breeding vaginal bacteria. The main characteristic of this infection is the secretion of a greyish-white discharge which is mostly foul in smell. This odour is often said to be fish like and becomes at time more obvious after having sexual intercourse or it could be an indication of sexually transmitted infections. The treatment that you got from your doctor is right, Clindamycin in any form that means vaginal gels, tablets or creams and metronidazole creams, tablets or gels are known to be good for the treatment of Gardnerella. Apart from the medical advice and treatment it would be of importance for your husband to get him tested and simultaneously treated as I could probable see this as the cause of you getting infected over time and again. But before you get on this, I would suggest you few remedial measures that will help you not to exaggerate your condition. What you should do is to avoideddouche; also do not use scents or soaps with deurbanising and anti-bacterial properties on or around the vaginal area and also take extra precautions to avoid sexually transmitted infections as much as possible. I hope for your quick recovery. Take Care of yourself.
