Hyperthyroidism.

Resolved question:
My girl friend has faced thyroid problem with right thyroid enlargement from about 1.5 years and June 2013, she has to undergone an operation. Doctors remove her both thyroid even though left was ok as stated by them. On August, 2013 she take RAI treatment on AIIMS, New Delhi and revisited AIIMS Feb, 2013. Now, doctor declared with her no problem with no thyroid cell in her body. She is now taking 150 mg thyroid tablet everyday with one calcium tab.
But my parents are against her in terms of marriage telling that she will not be able to be pregnant in future or misplace her baby in future. Or she will be not able to live a complete life. Kindly reply to this uncertainty even though I am with her. Is there any problem related to her pregnancy in future?

Hello,

Thank you for choosing DoctorSpring.

Your girl friend seem to have suffered from Hyperthyroidism (or excess Thyroid hormones) . With RIA and surgery it should be taken care. She will have to take Thyroid supplementation for life time. If taken properly there is NO issues or concerns in leading a normal family life. Her ability to conceive a child will not be affected if proper treatment is taken.

If you have more information on what kind of Thyroid diseases was this, please share.

Thank you

Report stated the thyroid problem as malignant tumor. What kind of treatment she has to follow during the conceive period? Her age is 28.

Hello, she will have to continue her thyroid supplements throughout even during pregnancy. She will have to get her thyroid levels tested every 6 months depending on which her dose will be regulated. During pregnancy she will have to get tested for thyroid levels more frequently. If her thyroid tablets are taken regularly she will have no problem and will lead a normal life.

I hope this has helped.
Take care.
Thankyou
