Increased BOWEL MOVEMENTS with METAMUCIL daily. Is it ok?

Resolved question:
Hi, doctor,
This is just a follow-up question. My doctor instructed me to start taking one tablespoon of Metamucil every morning as soon as I get up. I am on day 5. I am noticing that I am passing stools more easily and am not constipated like before, but I am having several movements a day. Sometimes I feel as if some is stuck but it passes eventually.None is diarrhea. They are all formed. Is this normal? I am really not suffering with too much bloating or gas, but I am wondering if I will eventually get to one movement per day. I have been reintroducing foods into my system slowly, but still basically on a bland diet. If you recall, I wrote about my stomach pains that were possibly diverticulitis/ colitis attack. This does not affect me at night. It seem to be more active during the day. I am drinking a lot of water, too.
Thank you for your help

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I am Dr. R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
On intitiation of metamucil for the intitial few days, the bowel movement can be frequent for chronic constipated patients. It will eventually regularise your bowel and the frequency will come down to 1-2 times a day. But it is a good sign metamucil helped. Formed stool rules out chances of infection too.
Since you are passing formed stools with ease , with no blood or mucus, there is no need to worry and it is absolutely normal.
Yes continue taking metamucil and in a few days time your bowel movements will become completely normal.
Regards.
