Migraine with visual aura.

Resolved question:
Yesterday at 2 pm my husband experienced blurred vision in left eye that proceeded a severe headache and nausea. The blurring of the left eye ended soon after the headache started. The headache and nausea lasted 2 hours, with 3 advil given 1 hour after the headache started. The headache was on both sides of his head. After the headache subsided, he complained of a sharp localized pain in the left side of his brain that occurs every time he coughs or sneezes. This same sharp, localized pain is still occurring 24 hours later, every time he coughs or sneezes.

-28 year old, white male, 182lbs.
-we attributed the headache and nausea to hypoglycemia due to not eating soon enough after workout at gym
-had sore throat, cough, lowered energy/sickness that lasted less than a week and ended a week and a half ago
-no history of severe headaches

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your husband's symptoms. The most likely diagnosis in his case could be a migraine with visual aura. The migraine attack can get precipitated by delaying meals, hypoglycaemia and workout at gym. The headache in migraine can last upto 72 hours.

However, as this is the first severe headache and there was blurring of vision too, it may be better to investigate to exclude any other causes such as brain ischemia (lack of blood flow to the brain). This would require investigations such as MRI brain with angiogram and carotid doppler.

I hope it helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries.

Best wishes,
