The clear gel like substance is nothing but a collection of mucous. Passing mucous in stool occurs quite common in children. Passing a small amount of mucus jelly-like substance in stool is usually nothing to worry about. Mucous is normally secreted in the intestine to keep the lining of the intestine moist and lubricated so during bowel movement some amount of mucus is normally passed. You need not worry about this now, however, you must be concerned if this becomes regular, if you notice him to pass increased amount of mucous or if it's accompanied by bleeding or a change in bowel habits such as loose stools. If at all such changes occur, then it indicates an underlying infection with rota virus, or shigella, commonly. However, three are other conditions which can cause mucous to be passed in stool. Hence, if your son passes mucous regularly, or in increased amount, then you must take him for stool test which will identify the causative agent. If the test is normal, he may not need any specific treatment. I would also recommend you to give him fibre rich food, such as cereals, whole wheat bread, beans and oatmeal. Sometimes at this age, a change in food habit with more solid foods intake can cause constipation which can predispose to pass mucous in stool. Give him plenty of water, maintain good hygiene, and maintain a healthy balanced diet for him, this can be quite beneficial at this stage.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have further questions. Thank you.
