Nifedipine for hypertension and swollen feet

Better tablet for blood pressure control

I am currently taking Aldomet 500mg and nicardia 20mg twice a day but my feet are getting swollen. Can you suggest me anotner tablet instead of nicardia 20mg which does not have any side effects, specially on kidneys

You haven't mentioned about your age and sex. I would like to know some additional details so that I can provide my best learned opinion.

1. Age, Sex - (If female whether you are pregnant or not)
2. Any medical illness (diabetes , seizures, heart disease)
3. Do you have breathlessness on exertion ?
4. Any decreased urine out put ?
5. Since when do you have the swelling ?
6. Your previous BP without drugs. Your current BP - with drugs.

Also, my blood urea level was high before i took treatment. Now its normal.

Thank you for the additional information. Well that clears it. Aldomet and Nicardia are NOT usually the first choice anti hypertensive medications. They are used in special circumstances - and in your case elevated Blood urea .

Elevated blood urea denotes a possible renal damage. Other medications can have a negative impact on the kidney. So any change in medication is only possible after a complete renal evalaution.

You will require at repeat Blood Urea, Serum Creatinine, Ultrasound Kidney , Urine 24 hour protein and Urine Microscopy.

Your previous diagnosis for the Elevated blood urea is also needed.
