Query about semen and fertility.

Resolved question:
I am worried about my fertility. I am 25 years old. Since last year I have noticed my semen is simply less thick. When I have sex or masterbate frequently my semen can sometimes be almost be clear. Normally if i wait a few days it's certainly is white and milky but it just doesn't seem as thick as it used to be. I waited for three days between masterbation and it was certainly very white but there was still some watery parts too it. If I had done this a year ago I know it would have been thicker. It also shoots out very fast and far at some point, usually the watery part of of it does this. I am very paranoid.

The white semen changes to clear reasonably quickly too.

Hello,

Thank you for choosing DoctorSpring.

(Consult reply with inputs from Dr.Gautam Banga, Urologist)

In general External appearance of semen has no correlation with fertility. This is because in a normal ejacualtion only 4% or less is actual sperm by volume. Rest are the secretions from the prostate, seminal vesicles etc. And the secretions from these gland can change in appearance as you age. In Addition a lot of external factors such as temperature can also influence this.

So unless you have any symptom like pain while urination, testicular pain, discharge via penis you NEED NOT worry about fertility. If you have any symptoms do let me know. During the last 1 year did you move your location ? (As in from a cold place to a warm climate? ) Also are you sexually active now ?

The only sure way to know about fertility will be to do a Semen analysis.

Hope this helps

Thank you for your response. Its its more clear when I have sex or masterbate often in short space of time. But if i wait a few days it is a milky white. Im just a but confused because i feel i used to ejaculate thicker and slighter more semen. I am sexually active but i have not STIs (i have checked anyway). There are no symptoms you described.

The change in consistency is perfectly normal when there is no ejaculation for few days. As per the WHO semen analysis guidelines (which you can refer) the overall appearance and consistency of semen is NOT a criteria to determine to look for fertility of semen quality. As I said only a minor fraction is actually sperm. With available information it appears that there is nothing worry. I assume there is no swellings around the testes and your sexual function is intact.
