Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I can understand your problem.
You are suffering from balance disorder for three weeks. You feel you are being pulled to right side. Your giddiness worsen with positional change as it happen on bending forward (to look at shoes).
As you MRI brain was normal six months back, you need not to worry about brain tumor as MRI can pick up very small lesion .
Most likely you are suffering from positional vertigo (BPPV). most likely it is not related to anxiety
But to get correct diagnosis , I need more information and need to do some investigation.
Do you have any ear symptoms (hearing loss, ringing of ear(tinnitus).
Do you have any associated nausea and vomiting with unsteadyness.
How long this episode lasts at a time (few seconds, minutes or hours)
Is it surrounding rotatory or inside rotatory of just unsteadyness(pulling to one side)
You can do some audiological investigation including audiogram and impedance.
If it is positional vertigo than you need to see and vertigo/ ENT specialist who can do positional test(dix halpike menovuer) and if it is positive he can do corrective epley’s menovuer.

Hope this helps
Best regards

I do get occasional ringing in my ears, it'll usually come in one ear at a time, and lasts for a few seconds. This, however, has been going on for years though. No nausea or vomitting. It seems like it'll last for as long as I'm walking - for instance - if I'm in the supermarket, it'll last until I get outside. If I was helping my son look for his shoes and then stood up straight, it would last for a few minutes or until I sit down. And it seems to be just unsteadiness. It happens everyday, at different times during the day. It hasn't gotten worse or better, throughout the last three weeks, it just seems to have stayed the same. I was getting over a cold when it came on three weeks ago. I'm healed from the cold and have been for a while, but this feeling of unsteadiness it still there off and on.

Hello,

It may be due to infection of balance organ( vestibular neuronitis or labrynthis) which may occur on getting cold. But to diagnosis you need detailed Neurootlogical examination. You can do investigation as I have mentioned. You can start tab. Betahistine 16 mg three times for 10 Days.

Hope this helps

Ok, but this isn't a brain tumor or brain cancer?

No this has nothing to do with brain tumor.

So what would the neurologist do then? I'm so scared this is brain cancer that has developed since my MRI six months ago. I do want to mention I have a NASTY post nasal drip that literally tastes like a sewer. I don't know if this might have anything to do with it - I've had that for over a month now - no other sinus symptoms. I'm just so scared this is brain cancer :-(

Hello,

Giddiness or unsteadyness can be due to various reasons, then why are you thinking only about tumor or cancer. You need detailed evulation, so we can get correct diagnosis, then it will be easy to treat you and same time we can reassure you. A normal MRI brain definitely rule out brain tumor or cancer.

Hope this helps

Best regards
