Recurrent fever, chills and UTI.AMIKACIN, LEVOFLOXACIN.

Resolved question:
Hello,
I am from a small town from Assam, India, Where good medical facilities are not available.
My question is that, my mother 62 year old is a diabetic patient and suffering from UTI since April/2014. In April/2014 she got chill and fever and we took her to Chennai Apollo Hospital and she was injected Amikacin 750 mg. for 7 days. After the injections she got some relief. But after 15 days she got again UTI. Then we do a urine culture again and my doctor prescribed her nitrofurantoin 100 mg tab thrice daily in 8 hours of interval for 21 days after this treatment she got more relief. But after 20 days she had agian chill and fever and we did again a urine culture and she is prescribed to take levofloxacin 500 mg tab once daily, after taking two tablets her chill and fever was gone. But, today she had taken her 11th tablet and her chill, fever and lower abdominal pain is back. She also having constipation. I am uploading the latest urine routine and culture reports her. So, what should we do now?

Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com.

Dear Sir,
Your mother is suffering from recurrent UTI. Start her on Tablet. Cefixime 200 mg, twice daily for 2 weeks and Tablet. Veltam(Tamsulosin) 0.4 mg, once daily for 4 weeks under the care of your doctor. I shall be interested to see her Ultrasound KUB report.
For the constipation, she should increase her fluid and fibre intake. She can also take Syrup. Looz (Lactulose) 15 ml, before going to bed.

Let me know if you have further queries. Take care.

Sincerely,
