Seizures after taking Keppra.

Resolved question:
My mother takes Keppra because she had a stroke-related seizure four years ago. She had her dose yesterday (Friday), but due to confusion within the family, we will not be able to get her next dose until Monday. Will she be okay without it for two days, or should we take her to the emergency room? She does not have epilepsy and hasn't had a seizure in four years (since her stroke). Thank You.

Hello and thankyou for approaching DoctorSpring.com

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your mother's medical details.

There is a mild risk of her getting seizures, if she skips keppra for two days. It is better to get her the dose if possible (by going to the emergency room).

However, if she is in a place where medical care is not accessible immediately, then, we can wait and watch, as four-year seizure freedom means very low risk of recurrence of seizures.

I hope it helps.

Best wishes,
