Should I take metronide after 1 hour of taking panadol for tooth ache?

Hi doctor, I am suffering from severe tooth ache and am going to get that tooth removed next week. But the pain is so unbearable that I cant even sleep or eat anything. So, I took 2 panadol tablets and the pain got 10 folded. Should I take a metronide to relieve pain?

Thanks for your question. Taking metronide tablets will not give you a sudden and immediate relief from pain. It is only an antibiotic used to prevent anaerobic bacterial infections seen in gut. So, its action takes some time to fight with bacteria and provide a long term relief. Alternatively, you can try some of these methods to relieve pain.

  1. Rinsing your mouthful with warm and salt water.
  2.  Using dental floss to remove food remnants which get locked between teeth.
  3. OTC (over the counter) drugs for pain relief

If these steps fail to relieve pain instantly, it is advised to consult your dentist.
