sinusitis with pressure in nose affecting eyes and head

Resolved question:
Hi there-I was diagnosed with a sinusitis last week. I have had symptoms for 10 days now, and started augmentin on Friday. I no longer have pain, but I have a lot of pressure in my nose and I feel like it is affecting my eyes and my head. I never had mucus in my nose, and it's scaring me that this is more than a sinus infection because the pressure will not subside. I am also on allergy medication-Allegra and Flonase, as well as do a sinus cleanse twice a day. What is wrong?

I wanted to know what the throbbing or pulsing feeling in my nose is then? It feels like it has a beat like a heart. And can I have inflammation even though I don't have any congestion? What diagnoses this as an acute sinusitis and not chronic? Thanks.

Hello,

The throbbing feeling is infact the feeling of blood moving inside a blood vessel. Normally we don't feel it. When there is inflammation we might have the sensation. Yes you can still have inflammation even if there is external congestion. You need not be consider chronic sinusisitis now, as it will be lasting for months or years. As a result of persistance of infection there is mucosal changes such as loss of cilia, edema and polyp formation.

But anything less than 6 months is considered acute sinusits.

Hope this helps
