Skipped a period for a month

Resolved question:

I normally have a 24 day cycle every month after being off of the depo shot since 2010. However, this month of May 2013, I haven't had my period yet and I KNOW I ovulated earlier that month. It's now cycle day 36 and still no period and took a test that came out negative. I am 30 years old and have one child that is 7. Never had any STD's or medical problems and don't take any medications. I am a smoker, yet I doubt that would be the case since that never had any affect on my cycles before. Please help. Thank you.

I understand your concerns but there s no reason to be worried. Since you have had your period quite regularly till now one month of periods being skipped indicates no serious problem. There are various reasons why the periods maybe irregular, the most common being due to emotional stress. The other factors that cause this could be hormonal imbalance, eating disorder, increased exercises, Hypothyroidism, uterine scarring, use of contraceptives, breast-feeding, and medications. Smoking does not affect the menstrual cycle. As you have already taken the home pregnancy test and the results are negative there is nothing to worry about. I would suggest you to wait till the next month of menstrual cycle and if it continues to be irregular then you could consult your obg-gyn doctor.
