Spread of genital warts from parents to children

Resolved question:

Hello doctor, I am a 15 years old male. I am a virgin till now. But I doubt whether I am affected with genital warts or something just like that. I got some pale coloured little bumps in my penis and scrotum. Is it due to genital warts? Being a virgin, how can I get genital warts? IIs it hereditary as I may have got it inherited from parents? What to do, if it is genital warts? Please help.

Thanks for your question about genital warts. Let me re-assure that this might not be due to genital warts, as warts look like bumps with a shape resembling cauliflower. It is caused by Human Papilloma Virus and causes abnormal growth of cells in outer layer of skin. It is usually caused by sexual contact with affected sex partners. But the method of transmission is not only based on sex. Skin to skin contact with warts can cause it to spread. One can easily catch genital warts by using towels or clothes used by affected people. It is not seen to be transmitted from mother to child by birth. Warts take about 4 to 12 months from getting affected with the virus, to appear. Moreover, the warts need not be attended as you fear. It will disappear by its own in some months as your body overpowers warts. But the infection will stay dormant in your body for a lifetime, as it cannot be cured completely. If there is any discharge from the lesions, you should consult your physician for options to treat it as soon as possible. Normally, genital warts do not cause any discharge from them. Hope I have answered your query. Wish you the best.
