Swelling with pain after METAL PLATES in RADIUS, ULNA.

Resolved question:
Hi, I had metal plates put on my radius and ulna in 2006. I woke up in excruciating pain pinpointed on one of the bones this morning and significant swelling around the area. Not sure what the cause could be and if I should be concerned.

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I have read your question with diligence .
If there is no history of any recent trauma then there are chances that you may have soft tissue infection or early infection at operative. You should get it examined by an orthopaedic surgeon as soon as possible. You may need complete blood investigation and complete removal of metal implants.
Hope this will help you,
Please feel free to discuss further.

I set up an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon for next week (4/1). I'm not sure if that is too long to wait if it is an infection. Do you recommend I go to the ER and see a non-specialist... or are there any steps I can do in the meantime to ease the pain.

Thanks,
Nora
