Treating UTI naturally

Resolved question:
I am treating a UTI naturally using D-mannose, echinacea, goldenseal and cranberry juice (I have no insurance). It gets better, then worse, then better, then worse; less in intensity each time. It has been about a week and it is mostly cleared, but I still feel inflammation/burning in my urethra. I don't have pain in my abdomen or the urge to go every 15 minutes like I did at the onset, and my urine stream is strong and copious. It is a little hard to start the urine stream, though. Seemingly overnight, I have lost the sensation to know when I need to pee. If my bladder is really full, I will feel a slight burn and very very slight pressure, but other than that, nothing. I have no injuries, no diagnosed diabetes or neurological disorders. Is this just temporary due to the inflammation, or is my bladder permanently damaged?

Dear Sir,

It seems that you are recovering from from UTI at this point of time and there is no permanent damage to bladder. However, I am worried about the recurrence of your symptoms and shall be keen to see you get further investigated with ultrasound KUB.
Kindly get the ultrasound and get back to us.

Take care

Sincerely

Thank you for your response. If it matters, I am actually female. I've never had a UTI that caused loss of sensation to urinate before. When should I expect to regain this feeling?

Hello,

The infection alone will not cause this lack of sensation for bladder filling. UTI as you might be aware is mostly a bacterial infection. So the if the lack of sensation of bladder filling persists then you will need evaluation and unfortunately there is no other option.

I understand without insurance it could tough. So you can judiciously wait for couple of days. If possible get in touch with a GP and get a course of antibiotics (like Norfloxacin 400mg twice a day for 7 days), rather than going on with the home treatment.

My concern is that the UTI could have been secondary. Secondary to a neurologic problem which could render the urinary tract susceptible for infection. The chance is less , so do not worry. I see no reason for a bladder dysfunction in an otherwise healthy women. If you have any other symptoms like bowel dysfunction, leg weakness, lack of sensation in the bottom or legs please let me know.

So as of now, try to get hold of an antibiotic - norfloxacin, Judiciously observe . i will keep this consult open without restriction. Feel free to ask followup/ clarification.

Thank you
