Unable to get erect penis during sex. Reason?

Resolved question:
Hi there I am a 19 year old guy I work 13 hours per day 5 days a week as a chef and I'm currently saving for a mortgage. Recently failed my practical driving test and have recently changed jobs I don't know what is causing this but I feel in my mind I want to have sex with my girlfriend and it just doesn't happen because my penis doesnt erect it's happened before but not for a few months. I also don't masturbate anymore in fear that this will cause it. I keep making excuses to my girlfriend because I just don't know Whats going on and it's just ruining my relationship. I send away blood test and have been told everything is fine but it's still happening. What's wrong with me I keep trying and it just doesn't go up now I'm scared to try as it upsets me and my girlfriend. How do I fix this before I loose my girlfriend over this?

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
Most men, at some stage in their life can have an occasional, temporary episode of being unable to get and keep an erection. Common reasons for this can be due to stress, tiredness, anxiety or drinking too much alcohol.
Your condition, is what is called erectile dysfunction and it can have physical or psychological causes or a combination of both.
Examples of some physical causes include: narrowing of the blood vessels in the penis (usually in patients with cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure or diabetes) OR hormonal condition such as thyroid dysfunction OR use of certain medications.
Psychological causes include depression, anxiety, fear of failing at sex, relationship problems with your partner.
One way to differentiate between physical and psychological causes is to know whether you still have nighttime erections. Men usually have between 3 to 5 spontaneous erections during sleep or when waking up. If you continue to have erections in your sleep, it is more likely that the cause of your problem can be due to psychological cause such as stress, tiredness or anxiety.
Also it would be helpful that should you decide to send a follow up question if you could attach reports of the blood work that you mentioned so that I get an indea of the tests that you got done.
Regards

Thank you for your reply but I'd also like to add that I had this problem before about 2-3 months ago but all of a sudden it is back. It start like 1 day it was hard when we tried to have sex then the next it was about semi then I had to stick it in to get it hard then the next day just nothing would happen it's very strange. We have a theory that it is sexual boredom because we live together and I have the freedom to get it when ever I want but another strange thing is is I can never do it more than once per day and this is even when the ED isn't occurring. Is this normal? I feel I'm in love and I feel completely attracted to her, also would love nothing more than to do it all the time believe me but theres just something stopping me. This relationship is 8 months perfect this is the only problem we have ever had. Could you offer a solution at all or at least something to try.

I get morning erections
it takes quite a bit of effort to get an erection and I have to touch and work hard to get an erection when watching sexually explicit material. I can't even get an erection just from looking at my girlfriend naked and when she's teasing or from feeling. I don't know what to do and I need help. My test were blood tests, testing my organs and came back satisfactory. I don't have diabetes or hypertension and I'm not on meds.

Hello,
Its definetly an erectile dysfunction and the cause is psychological. At your age and the fact that some time erection is there and some times it is not suggests that organic causes can be ruled out.
Normally the patients who visit my clinic have had past traumatic experiences with sexuality or they feel that sex is a bad thing in life. Manytimes the cause cannot be unfolded. Now this illness cannot be helped with medicine and will require psychological help. This is done by a sexologist or a psychiatrist who would like to explore your thoughts about sex and correct them where they are wrong with the cognitive behavioural therapy. Also a therapy called sensate focus therapy is also useful in such cases. In this tehrapy person should not make insertion as a part of sex and instead have only foreplay with no compulsion for sex for 1-2 weeks so that the patient becomes comfortable with the sex. During this phase the female partner should not touch the genitals of the patient. Now that the cumpulsion to have sex is solved and hence the confidence improves. I suggest some of my patients to even use aromatic oils for increasing the pleasure. After 2 weeks, you may begin with permission to touch the genitals but still not the actual intercourse. Then after 2 weeks, intercourse may be initiated.
Hope this helps,
In case if you have any further query, do let me know.
Kind regards
