Urinating blood

Resolved question:
My girlfriend (age 28) has her tubes tied, so her menstrual cycle has always lasted 2 days every month. The other day it ended so we had intercourse. Afterwards I noticed she bled. We figured she just wasn't completely finished. The problem now is It's been 3 days now and she's been urinating blood ever since. What do we do? Thank you

Hello
Thanks for writing to DoctorSpring.com with your health concern.

It could be a longer than normal period, which happens sometimes.
Is she having blood in urine, or is she spotting or bleeding while urinating ?
That is a significant difference.
Blood in urine could indicate a urinary tract infection, kidney stone, urethral problem - please get a urine microscopy plus urine culture and an abdominal ultrasound done.

For spotting that is continuing after sex, it could indicate a polyp, erosion or growth in the cervix.
It could also signify endometrial hyperplasia or polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Stress, anxiety, recent illness or surgery, fever, weight gain, change in diet, sleep patterns or climate and altitude - all these can also lead to spotting.
Please consult a gynecologist, and have a pelvic ultrasound scan and hormonal tests.

First wait and watch if the spotting subsides by itself in the next day or two, there is no cause for concern.

All the best.
Please feel free to ask for further clarifications.
