Hello,
Thanks for your query at DoctorSpring.

Normally the vagina is responsible for the secretions that women commonly observe.

The clitoris itself does not have any glands. However, at times, certain substances maybe mistaken for clitoral discharge.

One is dirt, debris and dead skin, slough etc that may get collected under the hood of the clitoris and manifest as discharge.

For this, you just need to maintain local hygiene, and clean the area thoroughly with warm lukewarm water.
Do not rub vigorously or use any medicated products or special cleansers for this.

Another discharge present in that area is called smegma, produced by the glands under the hood of the clitoris. This appears thick, slightly cheesy and may give off the unpleasant odour that you describe.

This is also a normal secretion meant for lubrication, and just needs to be wiped off and cleaned with water and a bud.

At times, yeast ( candidal ) infection might also affect this area, however in that case, there is generally associated itching and redness alongwith the discharge.

If the discharge is not resolved with gentle routine cleaning and perineal hygiene, then please consult a gynecologist to rule out any potential infection.

For recurrent discharges and infection, you should have your blood sugars tested and STD status checked, if sexually active.

Maintain thorough local hygiene.Wear non allergic cotton undergarments. Change them often through the day. Do not let the area stay damp for a long time. Pat dry everytime you use the washroom. Do not use perfumed or medicated gels, tampons, tissues, cleansers, soaps etc as they disturb the good local flora.

Take care, and please feel free to discuss or ask for any further clarifications.

Regards
