Treatment for herpes as STD test resulted positive

Resolved question:

Hello doctor, I am alarmed as I got my STD test result with a positive result of low count of herpes. But my doctor left me empty-handed, and gave me no medication. May I go with the words of doctor? Or is there a need for a retest? I haven’t had any problems yet. Also, I haven’t had any symptoms yet. Is there anything that I should worry? Or is it a false test result? What about available medications?

It is really unfortunate that you have got positive result for tests on genital herpes. But it is not necessary that herpes may show visible symptoms. It can stay dormant in body without causing any visible warts or blisters. Moreover, there is no medical cure available for treating herpes completely. That may be the reason that your doctor did not prescribe you any medicines. Medicines are used symptomatically, for pain relieving and for making blisters disappear. Commonly used medicines are anti-retroviral medicines like acyclovir. Till date, condoms are found to be the most suitable way to prevent spread of genital herpes. Once contracted with HSV infection, let it be of type 1 or type 2, there is no complete cure. Hope my answer helps. Take care.
