Hello, a black spot has appeared on the palm of my hand. I first noticed it earlier this week. It may be the consequence of lifting gym equipment (which I do twice a week) but I wanted to check whether it might be something sinister. I am a 37 year old male in otherwise full health.

This could be a melanoma. But I would recommend that you visit a dermatologist who can examine it thoroughly and do a dermatoscopy and a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis.
It would be difficult to confirm the diagnosis by just seeing the picture.
