Body aches after flu

Resolved question:
Good morning, I wanted to get a consultation before setting up an appointment at a local doctor here in California. My whole family got sick over the new year, both kids my husband and myself. we never got the flu shot only my toddler has it, anyway I had the flu like symptoms and currently I am still coughing and still having body aches and pains as well as headaches. I wanted to know if this was normal to have and feel after having the flu? I also had some upper leg tenderness about 3 days ago, it has gotten better. I wanted to know if there was something I could do and or use OTC to relieve any of the symptoms or should I make an appointment to get a blood work? thank you so much.

past medical history: normal to Low blood pressure, had c-section for both kids, family history of heart decease an cancer, got a blood check for cancer a few months ago turned out negative.

Been trying to quit smoking gradually I am now smoking about 1 stick a day when I need it. I exercise daily, walk 5 days out of 7 and do an hour of cardio 6 days a week, trying to stay healthy and get my weight down. I have been taking Garcinia Cambodia and I started trying PhenRX

Hello,

Thank you for choosing DoctorSpring.

The cough you are experiencing could be of two cause. It could be the manifestation of the virus itself (which in the first place got you the flu symptoms ). This is actually a common occurrence - a prolonged cough symptamatology following viral illness. Another cause is a secondary bacterial infection . The viral infection (flu) could make your respiratory epithelium fragile resulting in a bacterial infection. This is less likely, but possible. IF you are a long term smoker then risk for this increases.

Unfortunately OTC measures might not help you much. You could try steam inhalation with open mouth twice a day. You should not smoke for sure and plan for quitting altogether.

If you haven't had a physical examination and Chest Xray in last 1 year I strongly recommend consulting your GP as early as possible.

Edit : The upper leg pain is non specific. Unless you have been bed ridden in the recent past of long there is nothing much to worry about this pain, especially since it is resolving.

Hope this helps
