Breathing problem, fever, unconscious after HERNIA OPERATION.

Resolved question:
My mother in law under go hernia operation 10 days before. She was in ICU after the operation, because of body temperature is high. After two day she had been moved to ward, on the same day she faced little breathing problem, so after 12 hrs she again shifted to multi disciplinary unit for the treatment. Docters told that her sodium level is increased more than 180 and potassium got reduced. She is unconscious last 6 days. yesterday dialysis done (2 hrs) and now sodium level got reduced. But still she is unconscious.

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
High sodium after the surgery is due to high glucose fluid( dextrose) or inadequate water intake. The best treatment for her is to put ryles tube through nose as she is unconscious and give her simple water. Water is the treatment for high sodium as it is produced due to dehydration ( lie water state). Dialysis is routinely done good that and she must be having a kidney disease due to infection in the blood. Please check . As she failed to become conscious after the correction officials, she should undergo MRI of brain and see whether any other complication is existing. High sodium is known to produce bleeding inside the brain.
Feel free to discuss further.
