Burn on face by curling iron

Resolved question:
I was recently burned by a curling iron on my face on the outside of my eye near the temple. It scabbed and the scab fell off within a week. It's been 5 weeks and it is still pink and sometimes stings. I am very pale so it really shows. My dermatologist said it will be fine but it seems to be taking a long time to heal. I am 40 years old so not sure if age is a factor in wound healing. I am concerned the redness won't go away and am wondering what to do. I have been putting some concealer on it so could that inhibit healing or cause the burning and itching after 5 weeks?

Please advise

Hello,

Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com. I can understand your concern.

Is it possible for you to send me a picture of the lesion?

That will give me a better idea about why it is not healing.

Concealer could contribute to the non healing. You could send me the details of the concealer.

Do you have any other illnesses?

Please reply as follow-up. You could upload high res pics as well.

Thanks

Yes here are a few pictures taken today. You can see how pale my skin is. 3 days ago I started using something called Paula's Choice Scar reducing serum which I have on in this picture. Have no idea if it will help just read that it has onion extract and vitamin C. My dermatologist wanted me to start using a retina A by skin medica but I am afraid to start that right now. The area has two dents where the burn was the worst and I think those are the areas that keep burning but it's been 5 weeks. I just don't want it to leave a permanent red mark near my eye. The concealer is just cover girl foundation. I just dab a little on but doesn't cover well at all. Nothing seems to hide the redness. It was shiny but doesn't appear to be that way now. Is this a first or second degree burn?

Hello

Thanks for your reply and for the pictures.

The redness is visible right now. However, it will settle down slowly over a period of 4 to 6 weeks.

My recommendation would be not to apply anything for the next two weeks.

After two weeks, I would recommend application of just vitamin c over it twice a day for next four weeks.

Retin A application would not be very beneficial at this stage as it might irritate the skin.

Please let me know if you have any queries.

Take care

I just went to Clinique and they don't have a straight vitamin C serum. Can you tell me the name of the product please.

Hello

Thanks for your reply.

It's called dermawhite. In case you don't get it, you can go in for kiehl's or body shop vitamin c serum.
