Hello, I understand your concern. A pregnancy implant is a thin plastic implant which is flexible and the size of a matchstick. It is placed under the skin of the upper arm. It s action is regulating the release of the hormone called as progestin. It can be used for up to 3 years. It is quite effective and studies have shown tat 1 in 1000 women become pregnant using the implant .The advantages of using pregnancy implant are it can be used while breast feeding, it is safe. Once the implant is removed, the period slowly comes back to normal. This is usually removed by giving a local anesthetic to the given area and removes it by making a tiny incision at the tip of the implant. The symptoms that you have described such as heavy bleeding and mood swings are the side effects associated with the implant. If it is causing you a lot of pain, you can get it removed and used other contraceptive methods to prevent pregnancy. You can also take painkillers like ibuprofen twice a day after food for a week to relieve the menstrual pain. It is possible to remove the implant and reapply it at a later date. If the bleeding worsens, then you can consult your obg – gyn doctor. Thank you.
