Can Viagra be used safely if I don’t have erectile dysfunction?

Resolved question:

Dear doctor, I am an 18 years old guy. I used to have sex with my girlfriend. I heard that Viagra helps getting in prolonged erection. Now, I don’t have any erection problems. But I would like to try Viagra for better results. Is it safe?

Thanks for the question. As you said, Viagra is used to treat erectile dysfunction of certain levels. Whether it can be used for recreation is still a topic of controversy. Studies show that use of Viagra in persons without erectile dysfunction, it causes placebo type of results. There are minimal or no required effects in those who use it so. But use of Viagra is strictly not recommended for people with kidney and liver dysfunctions, heart problems, heart attacks, low BP, retinal disorders and other eye problems etc. Those who take medications including nitrates should abstain from using Viagra. Temporary or permanent impaired vision, nasal congestion, head ache etc. can occur in some people. In some others, it can cause life threatening situations like stroke, heart attack, sever low blood pressure or hypotension etc. So, it is always recommended to use under the guidance and prescription of a doctor. Moreover, as from your question, it is clear that you don’t have to rely on Viagra for an erection. Take care.
