Hello, I am 48 yrs old , for months I had been getting heavy and frequent periods( every 15-20 days for 10 days) then suddenly there was no flow for 2 months, i thought it was due to menopause but on the 16 th my periods started again, very light first week but now the flow is very heavy with clots and body ache and weakness.I had done some physical work on the 15th which required some effort. Is it normal? Please advice.

Hello
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com

You are right, these changes are mostly due to menopause or peri menopause.
However, you should have an evaluation since you are having very heavy periods, and this can lead to weakness, blood loss and anemia.
Please consult a Specialist Gynecologist and go for the following workup suggested -
Internal evaluation
pap Smear
Pelvic transvaginal ultrasound scan.
Hormonal levels - FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin.
This will tell you whether menopause is close by.
The condition that is most common during this phase is called endometrial hyperplasia, thickening of the lining of the uterus due to hormonal imbalance.
This can be treated with cyclical progesterone therapy.
Please get the evaluation done at the earliest.
All the best.
Please feel free to discuss further.
