Cerazette induced withdrawal bleeding.

Resolved question:
Hi , I am a 26 yrs old woman. I recently started taking Cerazette (8th march i.e. the day i was expecting my regular period which did not occur since sometimes my periods do get delayed by a few days). I wanted to be able to skip my periods this month (one week , 20th march till 27 the march ) so a doctor (here on doc spring) advised me to take two pills per day of Meprate starting 15th March. I was just going to start taking Meprate in the morning, but very light bleeding happened this morning. I still went ahead to take Meprate though, twice a day. Actually, I'm afraid of having breakthrough bleeding or constant bleeding which is a side effect of taking Cerazette sometimes (read online forums). I am not sure if it is just my regular 5 day period till March 20th or if it will get extended. It is day 2 now that I've been taking Meprate. Very very light periods. Should I stop Meprate and let them be for 4 days since it could be my normal cycle? Please advise how to stop my menses if it extends beyond 20th march! Would stopping Cerazette help? Meprate is not stopping them completely. It is very important for me to not have any bleeding for a week starting 20th march. I read about Primolut-N as well, would it be better to take Primolut-N to stop them ?

Hello and thankyou for approaching DoctorSpring with your query.
I have gone through your previous consult.
Stopping Cerazette would increase the risk of withdrawal bleeding.
Hence my advise would be to continue taking Meprate till 27th of March, that is your best chance of avoiding a period.

I hope this has helped. Feel free to follow up.
Take care

Hi thanks for the answer. I hope the bleeding stops by the 20th, although it is very light as compared to my regular periods. Also, does increasing the dose of Cerazette (twice a day) helps to stop the spotting/bleeding? Or is it advisable for only women with considerable weight. I am 5'3 and weigh 49.5 kgs.

Hello,
Instead of doubling the dose of Cerazette, my advise would be that its better to use Meprate.
With your weight, one pill a day of Cerazette is fine enough.
I hope this has helped.
Thankyou

Yes. You can get the labs to do the tests if you reside in India.
You can undergo the following tests:
1. Urine microscopy for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea.

2. VDRL test to rule out Syphilis.

3. ELISA to rule out HIV.

4. HBSAg test to rule out Hepatitis B.

5. Pap smear. This is to test for HPV. Pap tests, which check the cervix for abnormal cells, are recommended every two years for women between ages 21 and 30.

Thank you.
