Chances of REINFECTION of HELICOBACTER after antibiotics.

Resolved question:
In 2007 I had Heliocobacter and took the course of antibiotics. When I did a follow up test the infection was gone. In 2012 I did another test and it was negative. Should I get re-tested? Can the infection return and how long does it take for it to come back?

Hello.
Thanks for posting your query on DoctorSpring.com.

I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
Helicobacter pylori is transmitted from one person to another by oro-oral and feco-oral route. A person can get recurrent helicobacter pylori infection but the incidence of reinfection is low.

You can get retested only if you have recurrence of symptoms.
There is no fixed time interval for the recurrence of this infection. You can get it anytime.
However, if you do not have any symptoms, then you are unlikely to have it.

I hope that answers your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr.R.K.
