Cigarettes and pain below left shoulder blade

Resolved question:
I get this pain just below my left should blade, this happens almost every time I get up in the morning and fades away later. The pain also increases when I try and sit up straight and when I try and stretch upwards.

To be noted that I also smoke maybe 1- 3 cigarette's a day.

Hello,

My sincere apologies for the delay in reply.

Since you have the pain in the mornings it is suggestive of an inflammatory condition. It could be the inflammation of the ligaments or tendons (tendintis) There is nothing to worry at this stage. I recommend an anti inflammatory medication like Ibuprofen 400mg twice daily for 5 days after food. Take absolute rest during these 5 days. (rest for the arm).

Following this the pain should decrease. You can also do a mild hot compress at the areas twice daily . Following a week you can carry on with routine activities. However make sure you are not over exerting the arm.

In the rare case pain persisting beyond 4 weeks (or if the pain gets worse,) you will require further evaluation and testing. (including and Xray and may be a MRI)

Hope this helps
