Constipation after antibiotics

Resolved question:
hi
I have had hard and large stools for about 2 weeks now. I can pass them but it is difficult. i go daily .I have been upping my fiber and even on occasion taken a stool softener. drinking plenty of water and exercise daily. this started right after a 1 week treatment of antibiotics. does not seem to be improving so I am worried. I had a colonoscopy 2 yrs ago and all OK. never have had consipation like this for so long. a bit worried something serious. no bleeding, no pain.

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
If your stools are hard and difficult to pass in spite of taking fiber supplements and drinking plenty of water, then you need to take osmotic laxatives like lactulose also to aid bowel movements.
Get your blood glucose level checked.
If there is no relief, get a colon transit study done to find what kind of constipation you have.
Try to avoid constipation causing medications like cough syrup, antidepresssants etc.
I hope that answers your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.R.K
