Delayed and absent ejaculation without erection problems.

Resolved question:

Hi doc,

I used to have sex with my boyfriend. His problem is that he has delayed or absent ejaculation. But there is no problem in getting an erection or maintaining it. The only issue with him is that it takes a long time to ejaculate. What can be the reason of this? Prolonged time for happening, makes sex painful for me, at times. He told me that he has been taking drugs like Gabupentin, Lisinopril and Mavik. Is this medication causing delayed ejaculation in him? How can it be rectified?

Thanks for your question and concern. Delayed ejaculation can be the result of many factors. Main reasons are as follows:

  1. Psychological reasons like anxiety, sleeplessness, relationship issues
  2. High BP. Neurological disorders, pelvic surgeries and diabetes
  3. Influence of drugs (anti hypertensive, anti psychotics, anti depressants etc.)

Of these, the problem with your boyfriend can be that with drugs. He is taking ACE inhibiting drugs as Mavik, Lipitor etc. This can cause problems with sexual life. I think he has depression also, as he takes Gabapentin, which is a drug used to treat depression. Delayed ejaculation is a well known side effect of this drug. So, I recommend you to take him to GP, and your GP can help by suggesting some other medication which will not cause ejaculation problems. Wish you all the best.
