Diabetes with high FASTING GLUCOSE. Should I start medication?

Resolved question:
HI! I have just discovered that I have diabetes the hard way! I had frequent urination, irritation eyes e.t.c. My numbers are high! But for 2 weeks I have been eating healthy and my frequent urination has stopped and eyes are better. My fasting glucose ranges between 198 -250 (when discovered much higher). I realise these numbers are much to high! My question is, should I try to continue to eat healthy and exersise for maybe 1-2 months and try to monitor my situation and see if numbers drop further? Or should I maybe start medication now?
I am not obese. I am a 36 year old slim guy?

kind regards

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
You have mentioned yourself as type 1 diabetic.
It matters at this juncture whether you are type 1 or type 2, If you were to be type 1 you better not to go for kidney transplantation immediately as you require to go for simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplantation ( not from a living person but from brain dead , i.e. cadaver ).

Diabetes would develop as sorts of complications and one such thing called retinopathy is already there with you and you need to get evaluated for other complications of diabetes. You also need to go coronary angiogram while on Haemodialysis as you are likely to develop such complications some time while on hemodialysis. So, better get evaluated first before the symptoms appear and get treated aggressively. You also should get treated for lipid abnormalities, vitamin D and very good BP control. For chronic cough, you need to get evaluated for tuberculosis in chest etc and consult your nephrologist for the same with chest X ray film. It will settle soon and you don't need to worry about it.

You need a psychologist opinion on your fear for water etc. Other wise also you better meet some one and talk to some one who can give you good suggestions personally and give you personal counselling. YOu need to have lot of support form your family members and friends. Don't get discouraged due to several health issues as there will be a definite way that comes on the way while you keep doing the best. Take care of yourself and keep your good positive spirit up as you are 'always ' being a diabetic since childhood.

Feel free to discuss further,
Regards.

Hi,
I am extremely sorry for the delay. I sincerely apologise.
You have asked me too big questions that can be answered directly with compassion rather than by a mail, especially when you are still a student. Hope you understood what I meant.
You can go for insulin provided it's in your reach economically but insulin injections are Ali equally good except fir the time and comfort. Pancreas transplant is a cadaver based done in one or two only in this country. You need to register locally in cadaver ( brain dead people donating organs) registry and be ready as and when they call in emergency for transplant . You have to inform your parents not just the money aspects but also the technical aspects . It costs in several lakhs and depends on the hospital which us going to perform the surgery

Yes. You should keep your GHb below 7 preferably do that an ideal internal environment is maintained. Diabetics in general will have less healing capacity. Don't worry and check your diabetic doctor regarding your sugar control.
