Drug induced allergic manifestation.

Resolved question:
Hello, I have a question about how hives manifest, and how to know when to go to the hospital. My boyfriend and I recently moved into a new place, and at the same time he was prescribes amoxicillin for issues with his wisdom teeth. About a week after he finished the first round of antibiotics, he began to develop bumps that resemble hives, and they were small, and he told me they itched. I passed it off as a mild reaction, as he had no other symptoms. About 2 weeks ago he had to have the antibiotics again, and now the hives are back and he says they are very itchy, and they appear larger. Should we be worried?

Hello
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com

I can understand your concern.

From the history that you provided, it seems to be a drug reaction that he seems to be having after taking amoxicillin. I would recommend that you stop the amoxicillin and visit your doctor immediately.

Meanwhile he can take an anti allergic tablet like tab. Allegra 180 mg one a day. And apply calamine lotion over the affected areas.

Hives in this case are drug induced, they can even progress at times to cause a severe drug reaction. Hence its better to visit your doctor immediately so a proper course of treatment can be started.

Please let me know if you have any queries.

Take care
