Hunger and nausea at the same time and gluten intolerance

Resolved question:
Hi,
I'm 54, male, in good heatlh. I do not take medication. I have been on a gluten free diet for 3 months (intolerance).

I now feel hunger and nausea at the same time, regardless of whether I eat or not, anytime of day, for 3 days.

I have been eating more sugar than usual over the past few weeks (maple syrup almost every meal), if this matters.

What would be the possible causes?

Thank you,

Robert

Hi,

Thanks for posting your query. I am Dr.Ratnakar Kini and I am pleased to assist you.

Increased hunger like sensation along with nausea could be due to acid peptic disease.

The most common cause being infection with H.pylori bacteria. The next common cause is taking painkiller medications/medications like aspirin.

This can be confirmed with upper GI endoscopy. This may show inflamed inner lining of stomach or even an ulcer.

Relief can be obtained with medications like prilosec or zantac.

Increased hunger is also due to diabetes mellitus. So you can get your blood glucose level checked.

I hope that answers your question. Please feel free to discuss further.

Dr.Ratnakar Kini
