I been having stomach cramps on and off

Resolved question:

I have been having stomach cramps on and off for about a week now. As of yet there doesn't seem to be a pattern but I get cramps at least once a day. Any idea what could be causing it? The cramps are in the centre of my navel behind my belly button and my stomach hurts when pressure is applied.

Hello,

Abdominal cramps or pain can be due to many reasons. It can be related to your gastro intestinal system or your reproductive and genito-urinary system. Presence of any associated symptoms can indicate possible cause. If you are having altered bowel habits, flatulence, bloated feel, cramps following or before food etc., something affecting your gastro intestinal tract might be causing the problem. Causes like irritable bowel syndrome, peptic ulcer disease, GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease) or dyspepsia (indigestion), excessive gas formation etc., may have to considered. Consult a Gasteroenterologist for further evaluation if you are having any such symptoms. Spacing your meals well, regular bowel habits, avoiding stress may be helpful sometimes without even need of any medication.

If you are having menstrual problems like irregular periods, excessive bleeding., etc consult Gynecologist for further examination and evaluation of underlying problems related to uterus or ovary. If you have a missed period with recent history of unprotected sex, ruling out pregnancy is also important.

Further conditions like kidney stones or gall bladder stones can cause abdominal cramps or pain. Check with your physician for appropriate investigations.

Hope this helps. Thank you.
