Erectile dysfunction is a condition in which there is inability to achieve or sustain erection for a satisfactory sexual activity. It is quite uncommon in younger age group, and common in older males above 45 years of age. Erectile dysfunction can be temporary, which sometimes resolves on its own. However, if ongoing erectile dysfunction develops it can cause devastating psychological distress to you. Most probably I’m hoping that what you are having is a temporary problem and it will resolve on its own. The initial treatment for erectile dysfunction is lifestyle modification. Sometimes this is all required to get relief from erection problem.

1. Quitting smoking. This could be hard to do initially, but a strong will power can definitely help you to get out of this habit. Other remedies like nicotine patch and nicotine gum could be useful, but they don't reduce the crave for smoking. Choose a comprehensive smoking cessation program, this can definitely help you. Cravings to smoke are usually short-lived and will go away whether or not you have a cigarette.

2. Losing weight by regular exercise or diet. Regular brisk walking for 30 to 45 mins a day is advised. It improves the blood circulation and also brings down stress level. If you feel you need supervision or medical advice to begin an exercise program, ask your doctor to refer you to physical therapy. A physical therapist can evaluate your needs and start you on a safe and effective exercise program.

3. Drinking less alcohol

4. You can also try to hit the gym and work out for 30 mins daily along with aerobics as well. Try swimming too.

5. Eat healthy food. Eat small frequent meals more of vegetables and fruits salads. Avoid deep fried junk foods.

6. Sleeping 6-8 hrs in the night. Your body needs time to recover from stressful events and it helps to bring down to stress in the mind.

7. If you  are taking medicines like antidepressants or other doctors then consult with doctor for alternative medications.

8. If erectile dysfunction is found to be caused by anxiety or depression, psychotherapy may be an effective treatment on its own or in combination with certain drugs (e.g. antidepressants). Sexual therapy counselors are specialized in this field.

If after trying all the above methods you still have problem with erection, then you must consult with a male gynaecologist or physician and he will be able to examine you and run few tests which could indicate the underlying problem causing erectile dysfunction.

Hope this helps. feel free to ask if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
