In what conditions REYATAZ, RITONAVIR are used besides HIV?

Resolved question:
My brother has been prescribed with reyataz 300mg and ritonavir 100mg. He told me nothing to worry about but Google results told me those drugs are for hiv patients. May I know do those drugs treat other conditions? Thanks.

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
These drugs are given for Post Exposure Prophylaxis of HIV. There is no other indication. For how long has he been prescribed these medicines? That will give us a better idea.
Feel free to discuss further,
Regards.

Patient replied :

The problem is that has been ultra secretive and I could not gather any extra info from him.

he was admitted to hospital last June due to virus attach according to her physician, symptoms include persistent fever and Low platelet (30,000 lowest). He was discharged since consulting a hematologist. He has been seeing the same doc every 3 months.
Just that the last visit he came back with big bags of meds, I believe prescription for 3 months.
He keeps telling me that nothing alarming, just some meds to ensure the virus dies off.
But those drugs are for hiv so I believe he is hiding something from me. Before approaching him, I just want to know is it possible those drugs are solely for hiv? Do doctor prescribe them for other conditions?

Hello,
Thank you for your follow-up.
Unfortunately, these medicines are given only for the treatment of HIV. There are no other indications.
So you need to talk to him and find out why he is taking them.
Feel free to discuss further,
Regards.
